YCAL Hosts Career Opportunities Day

YORK, PA. – (March 17, 2014) – 170 York County high school juniors and seniors attended Career Opportunities Day on Thursday, March 13 at HACC's York Campus.

The event was the culmination of the Career Opportunities Program (COPS), an in-school curriculum available to York County High School juniors and seniors preparing to enter the professional workforce. COPS provides students with the opportunity to work with local human resource professionals to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to job preparedness.

Students had the opportunity to attend three breakout sessions pertaining to one of the 16 National Career Clusters as well as a Soft Skills Workshop and a Post-Secondary Expo. The Expo allowed the students to interact with post-secondary institutions to help them understand their options upon graduation.

“As an entity that is inextricably tied to the community, HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, is happy to partner with the York County Alliance for Learning and host the annual Career Opportunities Day at our York Campus,” stated Tim Barshinger, Career Services Coordinator at HACC York, “This event serves between 150-200 high school students each year, giving them insight into careers and teaching them about the skills necessary to be successful.  It is our pleasure to be a supporter of this event, and it is central to our purpose as a community college.”
