YORK, PA - The York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL), in partnership with the Kinsley Education Center held their Kick-Off Event on Tuesday September 12th for the new Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program.  This program seeks to aid students in career education and exploration to determine if pursuing an Apprenticeship in Construction after graduation is part of their career plan.

The fourteen students enrolled in the inaugural Pre-Apprenticeship Program are completing online learning modules at their home High Schools to provide the basic knowledge and terms that they will utilize to complete the course.  Students will return to the Kinsley Education Center intermittently throughout the school year to complete a 10-hour OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) course and receive the hands-on training to complete their final project, which is to build a scaled model house.  To properly welcome students into the program, Kinsley presented the students with personalized hardhats and safety glasses as well as a toolkit, which matches the one used by those entering the Registered Apprenticeship Program at the Education Center.

Bob Kinsley, Chairman and CEO of Kinsley Construction, Inc. attended the event to meet the Pre-Apprenticeship students and to share the history of Kinsley and the Education Center.  Addressing the students Kinsley said, “America is a great place.  You can start with that tool bag and you can end up being President of your own company or this company.”  The Kinsley Education Center opened in 2000 to help address the skilled labor needs of the company.  “Our companies have grown and it’s because of people like you.  It’s not me.  Yes, our name and reputation is on your hat, but it’s really all the people that are here that made us successful.” The Pre-Apprenticeship Program will run through April 2018.  Applications for the 2018-2019 Pre-apprenticeship class will be available on www.ycal.us in the Spring semester of 2018.
