York County Alliance for Learning Elects new Board Leadership

Outgoing Board Chair Lisa Dennis congratulates incoming Board Chair Dr. Robert Farrell at YCAL’s Board of Directors Meeting in May

YORK, PA – The York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL) Board of Directors recently elected two of its members to new leadership roles beginning on July 1, 2022.

The Board elected Dr. Robert Farrell, Director of Academic Affairs at Penn State York to serve as the new Board Chair and Bill Probert, Supervisor of Secondary Programs and Services, at Dallastown Area School District to serve as the new Vice-Chair.  Dr. Farrell succeeds Lisa Dennis who served as YCAL’s Board Chair for the past 4 years.

Ms. Dennis retired from South Western High School at the end of the 2021-2022 school year after serving as an educator for over 30 years. As the outgoing chair, Dennis stated that “I am proud to have been a member of this organization since early in its inception.  From the very beginning this organization has been about York County School District’s sharing ideas and resources to make connections with local business representatives for career readiness and awareness for our students.  I know that YCAL will continue to have a huge impact in York County career readiness with the continued leadership of Executive Director Kevin Appnel and newly elected Board Chair Dr. Robert Farrell.”

As the incoming Board Chair, Dr. Robert Farrell stated that “I’m very excited and humbled to be able to serve as YCAL Board Chair for the next two years.  Having been a board member for the last ten years, I’ve come to appreciate the outstanding career exploration opportunities that YCAL facilitates in the community, and I am gratified by the diverse career pathways that students have embraced because of these hands-on learning experiences. My priorities are to continue working with the current and incoming board members to develop new career exploration opportunities, strengthening the working relationships we enjoy with our corporate partners and seeking new partnerships, and hearing more from our participating schools about how we can better support their students.”

YCAL connects educators and employers to engage students in various career development activities to help drive the workforce.  YCAL currently offers 40 different Career Exploration Programs as well as Pre-Apprenticeship programs in Construction, Electrical, and Manufacturing to local high school students.  YCAL also offers educator enrichment programs such as the Career Education and Work Standards Symposium and Educator in the Workplace.  For more information on YCAL programs and to learn how you can get involved with supporting these programs, please visit www.ycal.us.
