March 22, 2011 2:27 PM

YORK, PA. – March 22, 2011 – 195 York County high school juniors and seniors attended Career Opportunities Day on Thursday, March 10 at HACC's York Campus.

The event was the culmination of the Career Opportunities Program (COPS), an in-school curriculum available to York County High School juniors and seniors preparing to enter the professional workforce. COPS provides students with the opportunity to work with local human resource professionals to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to job preparedness.

Students had the opportunity to attend three breakout sessions pertaining to one of the 16 National Career Clusters as well as a Business Expo and a Post-Secondary Expo. The Expos allowed the students to interact with the business community and post-secondary institutions to help them understand their options upon graduation.

In 2010, YCAL affiliated with YCEDC’s Office of Workforce Development (OWD) to build a strong connection with the business community to improve the implementation of programs, ultimately improving the quality and quantity of opportunities for youth.

The affiliation remains in line with the OWD’s mission to engage employers, educators and community partners to create a life-long learning environment that will attract and retain strong businesses and a diverse talented workforce critical for sustaining a vibrant community and a growing, innovative economy.
