YCAL Hosts Career Education and Work Standards Symposium, Awards Grants

YORK, PA.  – February 27, 2015 – Over 80 York County educators attended the Career Education and Work Standards Symposium on Wednesday, February 25 at York County School of Technology.  The Symposium was hosted by the York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL).

The Symposium sessions provided educators with impactful, relevant lesson plans to adapt to the grade level in which they specialize.  The lesson plans encompassed the Career Education and Work Standards, Pennsylvania’s academic standards, including career awareness and preparation; career acquisition; career retention and advancement and entrepreneurship.

“York County School of Technology was excited to host the annual Career Education and Work Standards Symposium.  I can’t think of a better place to hold an event focusing on career education.  This symposium is just one of the numerous activities provided by YCAL to help introduce students to future career opportunities.  Educators from all areas of York County came together sharing best practices and collaborating about preparing students for life after high school in the workforce.” Dr. David W. Thomas, Director.

At the Symposium, YCAL awarded over $5,400 to 8 educators through YCAL’s Innovation Grant program.  Applicants were required to partner with a York County business or organization to develop an innovative project that supports YCAL’s mission of facilitating the development of a high quality, relevant workforce through career awareness.
